Taken Care Of Business Today !

Joe and Henry were busy working on the Holloway tow car (KIA) today....apparently we need a catalytic converter, which we will have installed when we get to Vegas.  While they were doing their diagnosis, Linda and I hit the laundry room again....its so big and we never know if we will have one in an upcoming campground, so we are leaving Phoenix with clean clothes ! We are also leaving with lots of grapefruit in our refrigerators...those grapefruits at this campground are just so sweet and we have been eating one apiece every day, and enjoying them !!

We have really enjoyed Phoenix and now we head northwest to Williams Arizona, which is where we will stay as we visit the Grand Canyon and Flagstaff !  Looking forward to this next leg !  xxoo TML

Hittin the Museums Today !

BIBLE MUSEUM

We went to a Bible Museum and we saw some amazing and very old bible pages. Joe got to look through a bible that was 400 years old...written on cotton paper and incredibly well preserved.  On the following pictures, read the first picture and then enjoy the page of the Gutenberg Bible it references.  Note that the page is hand written and drawn !  Artistically, that is pretty amazing.

PENSKE RACING MUSEUM

Next we were off for some NASCAR !  Roger Penske Museum included some of the actual cars that had run and won for his team.  Check them out !

This was a really fun picture to study. Taken in 1998 at the 50th Anniversary of NASCAR !

Lots of trophies were on display but most of the pictures were glared because they are in glass cases. But you get the idea....this team definitely had the winning formula !

ARIZONA SCIENCE CENTER

We were not sure what we would find at the Science Center but we were very entertained with the exhibits and activities.  They had films of actual surgeries being performed, self tests on nutrition, lots of science experiments, strength tests and more. 

The highlight was Joe, Linda and Henry getting on this bike that was balanced on a high wire ! They each rode it....check them out !

I don't fare well with heights, so I opted for the bed of nails !

We also got a sneak peak at the Grand Canyon, which is our next stop.  They had a scale model of the canyon and you could click on some of the vista points to see actual 360 degree views from that spot.  This was a very fun center !  Hope everyone has a great Wednesday !   xxoo TML 

Toot Toot .... All Aboard !

Okay, this first picture has nothing to do with trains...but check it out anyway.  This is a big cutout of a toddler sitting in a field with a real tractor.  Its just wild and its right at our off ramp but we had to pull over on the freeway to get the picture !  Another unexpected find !

Joe and Henry got a free private tour of the Arizona Railway Museum today...they went out and learned that the museum is only open on weekends but the guy saw them taking pictures and he took them on the tour himself.  They got a slew of pictures but here are a few to give you an idea of what they got to see !

One of the things on our bucket lists was to go to the Heart Attack Grill in Chandler, AZ (Google it !) and today we did BUT to our dismay, they were closed for remodeling.  We were just so bummed out but I took pictures anyway.

The Heart Attack Grill serves hamburgers that are so high in cholesterol they are unhealthy.  If you can eat a quadruple bypass burger, its on the house.  They deep fry the buns in lard !  The fries are all you can eat and are available like a salad bar but smothered in cheese.  Patrons over 350 lbs eat free and their spokesperson, a big guy who ate the quadruple bypass burger everyday, died of a heart attack.  Anyway, Joe was dying to eat here....we are bummed that we didn't get to experience this place !

The Wild Wild West !

Today we went to a real ghost town, I kid you not !  It was very cool, a tad commercial, but had all the elements of Dodge City and it was just up the road from Tortilla Flats, a stagecoach stop !  We went there too and had Prickly Pear Ice Cream...made from cactus !  So, it begs the question....how may Boot Hills are there?

Grapefruit Picking !

Today was a travel day for us....Tucson to Goodyear, a city just north of Phoenix.  The drive was uneventful and weather was perfect, little wind and sun was behind us most of the way.  We only had to travel about 140 miles and it was nice to come through Phoenix to get a first glimpse of this weeks stomping grounds. 

Our campground is actually a resort....hoity toity us are living it up this week...its really nice here, concrete pads, full hook-ups and plenty of amenities.  The laundry room has 16 washers and dryers so we did all our laundry in a snap.  We always like to walk around the campground after dinner...we eat much more now than we normally would so this is really a must !  Anyway, while walking we realized our campground (Le Resort !) is full of orange and grapefruit trees so we picked a bunch for breakfast.  That will be good !

We are all looking forward to what we will find in Phoenix and we have our bucket lists all ready ! xxoo TML

Appreciating Tucson's Animals & Plants

Today we went to Tucson's Botanical Gardens and it was just a really nice stroll through winding paths of cactus, herbs and some but not too many flowering bushes.  It was worth the visit and we enjoyed it before we headed out for some more Mexican food !  We are really enjoying that while we are in the southwest !  Here are a few pictures from the Botanical Gardens.

No good Road Runner pictures....we just could not get one but we all saw a few running around the campground.  Joe and Henry also saw a Bobcat and a coyote, in our campground!  Also, every night at dusk you can see bats in the sky, flitting around eating insects ! 

Tomorrow we head to Phoenix for about 5 days.  We have really enjoyed Tucson, the weather is so different from Georgia and we have enjoyed seeing all the animals !  So, moving a little north now, making our way toward the Grand Canyon !  xxoo TML
