Crossing THE Bridge into Nevada !

The new Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge, which goes over Hoover Dam into Boulder City and the Arizona/Nevada state line is sooooooooo high and sooooooo scary to cross in an RV !  We crossed it today and I was shaking when we did.  The taller vehicles (US) were directed to use the inside lanes but we followed another RV over and used the outside lane.  I got one picture from the bridge but then later this afternoon, Joe and Henry went back and took more pictures from the bridge and from Hoover Dam looking up at the bridge.  It's pretty amazing but I am telling you, its scary in an RV !  Check it out !

Howdy from Williams Arizona !

Williams is a town with tremendous character, in a number of ways !  First its called the Gateway to the Grand Canyon because it intersects with I-64, which heads directly to the south rim and a train departs everyday from Williams to the Grand Canyon.  It is also a Route 66 Historical stop, so lots of themed stores and entertainment around that.  Finally, its a western town that has that architecture, especially in Old Town and they have a gun fight every evening at 7PM.  So enjoy a tour of Williams.

The gunfight is really fun...this was a nice size crowd too !

We have really enjoyed Williams, its a very entertaining town ! xoo TML

Stone Age to Space Age !!

Yesterday, on our way to the Grand Canyon, we stumbled on a little pearl in the desert....Bedrock !  Yep, the Yabba Dabba Doo one !  Check it out !

Today, we took a drive into Flagstaff to see the Lowell Observatory.  It was extremely windy and it was not comfortable being on a mountain top but the lady that gave us our tour was absolutely passionate about astronomy and she made it all worth it, plus we learned a thing or two !

Lowell is the man who built the telescope that is in the first picture and this telescope was a intregal part of NASA's space program and is actually still used today.

We each got to look through this special telescope at noon to see the surface of the sun...WOW !  Did you know that the suns surface is like an orange and it has spots, which are actually places that have a cooler temperature than the rest of the surface.  It was pretty awesome to be looking at the sun so close up.  This is Joe taking his turn.

So, another really good day for us....we expect the wind to die down tonight so that we can have a more pleasant day tomorrow.  We are doing so many different things on our trip....we are enjoying every day and every night we go to bed so thankful ! xxoo TML

The AMAZING Grand Canyon

Today Joe and I saw the Grand Canyon for the first time.  How can I adequately describe how it felt when you first lay eyes on this wonder....and wonder is the correct word !  It is just breathtaking and we both could not believe what we were seeing.  I am going to have a hard time picking a few pictures to post...we took many !

We were on the South and East rims.....it was a beautiful day but we had really gusty winds.  Here are a few pictures...enjoy !

Joe and I both want to come back and maybe get a chance to hike around the bottom.  It would be so wonderful to see this from the floor up....can you imagine what that would feel like?  WOW !
If you do nothing else, everyone does (as the plaque says) need to see the Grand Canyon !

Love and hugs....TML

Gettin Our Kicks....Route 66

Williams, Arizona is where we landed today, around noon.  The 7000 foot elevation was felt by all of us and our campground hosts gave us instructions to immediately sit and drink 2 tall glasses of ICE water so that we would not get sick.  Its hard to just sit when you first arrive somewhere because there are so many things to do to set up...but we all drank the water and I think we are all fine.  Since we have been here our cartridge ink pens all exploded and all the air tight bags (potato chips etc) have puffed up.  This elevation is interesting !

Okay, so back to being in Williams....first, the terrain totally changed from desert and cactus to green hills and pine trees.  The temperature is in the 70's too and we learned that just a week ago, they had 4 inches of snow on the ground here.  Hard to fathom !  Williams is a historic town on Route 66, its an old western looking town and I think this holiday weekend it will be packed! We took a quick trip into town this afternoon and got some pictures.  Here is Williams, Arizona !

Tomorrow we head to the Grand Canyon and I am so excited! xxoo TML
