A Trip To Deadwood

DEADWOOD, SOUTH DAKOTA
An old western town that is most famous because of Wild Bill Hickok, who was killed there at Saloon No.10 in 1876.  Hickok was a gunfighter, scout, lawman and gambler...he was involved in several notorious gun fights.  On August 2nd, 1876 he was playing a game of poker when Jack McCall, whom had lost at poker earlier to Hickok, came up and shot Wild Bill in the back of the head.  When he fell dead he had a poker hand of 2 black aces, 2 black eights and the 9 of diamonds in his hand...this has been since known as the Dead Mans Hand.  We also learned that Calamity Jane, a wild west performer and saloon girl who was smitten with Hickok but not believed to ever be his girlfriend, died from alcoholism with one last request...to be buried next to Wild Bill.

So, today we enjoyed a day in Deadwood, including a visit to Saloon No.10 and Mt. Moriah Cemetery where Wild Bill is buried, with Calamity Jane by his side.  The woodwork inside the hotels and original saloons is amazing....its a fun town to visit and we had a great day there.

We have had rain today but forecast says tomorrow may be clear !  We hope to make our way out to Mt. Rushmore and Crazy Horse tomorrow !  We also have noticed all kinds of beautiful brass statues on the corners of downtown Rapid City, so we want to get a closer look at those !  Much to do here !

Hugs to you all....xxoo TML
